Florence is a city rich in its historical heritage, gentle with its cobbled stone streets of the past, graceful with sidewalk cafes and stylish in its modern outlook.

During the program students live in apartments. Arrangements for accommodation are made by the Program staff.

The apartments are all located within the ancient city walls, with a range in walking time to the Palazzo dei Cerchi of 10 to 20 minutes. The apartments accommodate 2 to 6 persons, and generally have two single beds in each bedroom.

All apartments have kitchen and bathroom facilities and a community space. The kitchens are furnished with dishes and cooking utensils and have a stove, oven or microwave, refrigerator, and clothes washing machine. Bed linen is provided; participants should bring their own bath towels or purchase them in Florence.

Students are responsible for their meals and usually prepare their food in the apartment with groceries purchased at nearby markets or eat in local restaurants and trattorias.

All common spaces of student apartments are cleaned approximately once every ten days. Students are responsible for keeping their bedrooms clean and tidy.

Students are responsible for the monthly rent, as well as an extra allowance to cover the cleaning service, normal use damage, utilities and a finder’s fee. Those latter costs are equal to one month’s rent.

Student apartments do not have telephones. Thus, we strongly recommend that students rent a mobile telephone while in Florence.

There are Internet cafés throughout Florence. If you take a laptop computer you will have internet access at the Palazzo dei Cerchi.

While public transportation is readily available in Florence, the city is remarkably compact, so that the most practical method of getting around is by foot. Most places can be reached on foot in 10 to 20 minutes. The railroad station is centrally located.
