Florence is a city rich in its historical heritage, gentle with its cobbled stone streets of the past, graceful with sidewalk cafes and stylish in its modern outlook. As one alum said, The apartments were very satisfactory. Cleaner and bigger than I expected, and well stocked with the things we needed.  Of all of our friends, my roommates and I had the apartment farthest from school, and it was still only an eight minute walk.  The entire city is very manageable and it was never necessary to take any public transportation.  Everything in Florence is walkable!

▪  Prior to your departure for Florence you will receive assistance from us when applying for a student visa.

▪  Your program cost includes internet access with a laptop computer at the Palazzo dei Cerchi.  That fee includes setup, 24/7 access, and 100 pages of printing.

▪  We strongly recommend that students rent a mobile telephone while in Florence. You can order a mobile telephone on-line, and have it shipped to you so that you will have a working mobile telephone upon arrival in Italy.

▪ Florence is remarkably compact. The most practical method of getting around is by foot. Most places can be reached in 10 to 20 minutes on foot . The railroad station is centrally located.

 Intensive Language Program Participants

Participants in the Intensive Italian Language Program are required to live with Italian families. All families have been carefully chosen to offer an authentic learning and living experience. Host families provide 2 meals a day.

 Semester Program Participants

▪  Participants in the semester program live in apartments arranged by the Program staff.

▪  The apartments are all located within the ancient city walls, with a range in walking time to the Palazzo dei Cerchi of 10 to 20 minutes. The apartments accommodate 2 to 6 persons, and generally have two single beds in each bedroom.

▪  All apartments have kitchen and bathroom facilities and a community space. The kitchens are furnished with dishes and cooking utensils and have a stove, oven or microwave, refrigerator, and clothes washing machine. Bed linen is provided; participants should bring their own bath towels or purchase them in Florence.

▪  Students are responsible for their meals and usually prepare their food in the apartment with groceries purchased at nearby markets or eat in local restaurants and trattorias.

▪  Students are responsible for the monthly rent, as well as an extra allowance to cover the cleaning service, normal use damage, utilities and a finder’s fee. Those latter costs are equal to one month’s rent. All housing costs are paid to Kent State prior to departure.

All common spaces of student apartments are cleaned approximately once every ten days.
