Decorative Arts

Much of the furniture, ceramics, silver and glass in the Museum's collection comes from the personal collection of the founders Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman, whose adjoining Central Park South penthouses apartments and 7th Avenue showrooms were filled with carefully chosen objects acquired during a lifetime of collecting. Their European antique furniture, Chinese blue and white porcelain, and small decorative pieces from various periods and cultures now form a rich archive for KSU students of art and design. Treasures in the decorative arts collection include a Chinese Kang Xi reign (1662-1722) lacquer screen, a pair of Portuguese 18th century rosewood corner cabinets, and several examples of 19th century scenic wallpaper produced by the French firm of Jean Zuber. Gifts of decorative arts continue, most notably the Wilkinson-Gould Collection, nearly 150 pieces of antique furniture, glass, ceramics and metalwork donated by John Wilkinson, and the tour-de-force Chinese ivory carvings and enameled birds given by Victor E. Buehrle.
